LA SIRENA MARGARITAS

This project involves showcasing one's identity through a beverage label.
La Sirena Margaritas are inspired by Chicano culture. Overall the design
is meant to be bold, whimsical, and focuses on ethnic pride.

INSPIRATION

Loteria

As a Chicana I acknowledge that I have an Americanized
side and a Mexican side. When
trying to find the mascot
or character that would be the face of La Sirena Margaritas,
I wanted to find something that was made of two parts.
I decided a mermaid would be fitting because the figure appears in the Mexican-bingo game called "Loteria".
The "La Sirena" card featured in the game is where the
name of the beverage label is derived from and inspired
the mermaid figure on the front of the can.

Votive Candels

When I was younger, I would go to church with my family and leave candles for La Virgin de Guadalupe. The shape of the tall, margarita can and the rays of light behind the mermaid were inspired by those votive candles.
