FOR THE LOVE OF TYPE
For the Love of Type is a collaborative book project created in Art 338: Typography II at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. The book showcases different contemporary typefaces. Each typeface section was written and designed by a different student in Art 338. I designed the book cover, front matter, end matter, divider spreads, and the section about the typeface called “Lust”.

PROCESS
Throughout the project my goal was to come up with a solution that would show off the letterforms of all 8 typefaces featured in the book. My final solution displays the letter “A” of each typeface in bold circles to call attention to their different styles. I also wanted this type book to be fun and playful, so I opted for circular graphics, dot patterns, and hues of bright pink.
For the Lust spreads, I wanted to go for a more serious and elegant mood. During design exploration, I experimented with using different letters and numbers (such as parts of the letter “N”) to form geometric designs so I could showcase the beauty of Lust.
